There is amazing wildlife in the city! Not alligators in the sewers, mind you. And we won’t run into a wolf or a bison crossing the street either. But there are hundreds (or even thousands) of different wild animals and plants that live with us in Eindhoven.

There are many small birds inhabiting our backyards, streets, and parks. Did you know there are also owls and falcons? Even squirrels, hedgehogs, and foxes call Eindhoven their home!

Looking closely, one finds smaller wildlife: butterflies, bees, grasshoppers, ladybirds and many other insects! They all have their wild behaviour, just like if they lived in a natural area. But they adapt to their city life.

Autumn is in full swing and many animals are preparing themselves for winter! Squirrels are busy stashing acorns and nuts. Robins are singing everywhere, protecting their winter territories. And down on the ground, mushrooms pop out everywhere!

Eindhoven has many city parks, which are beneficial for nature. We are thus fortunate that we don’t need to leave the city to see some wildlife.

So, next time you go for a walk, pay attention. Look up and try to see a squirrel hopping in the branches or woodpecker clinging to a tree. It will put a smile on your face!
