A day out: Carnaval 2022 in Eindhoven!

You might have noticed it already, but our government will scale down the firm covid rules from friday the 18th of february! This means the pubs and nightclubs will be able to open their doors until 01:00. Carnaval in Brabant will be celebrated from the 28th of february until the 1st of March. This means that, after two years, carnaval will continue! But what is it, and how can you ‘participate’?

Carnival is a folk festival that’s normally celebrated every year in one of the early months of the year depending on several religieus dates. Carnaval is celebrated all over the world, you have probably seen one of those Brazilian Carnaval videos, looks fun right? In the province Noord-Brabant it’s a little different. We all dress up weird and go out on the streets to drink beer with everyone. It may sounds like a simple past time, but it’s really fun. Normally we also have parades, where groups of people make beautiful vehicles, you should look it up! This year most of the parades were canceled, the time to make something was way too short.

As the covid regulations have been scaled down just two weeks before Carnaval, it’s difficult to organize all kinds of things, so carnival won’t be the same as normal but will come very close! This is because everyone missed going out so the pubs will be overflowed with people who celebrate. But don’t worry, there’s still a lot to do in Eindhoven!

How the Carnaval will look this year is not clear yet, but if we have an update we will absolutely let you know through our social media and/or site! So keep an eye out for it!
